Frequently Asked Questions

The app won't unlock — Touch ID or Face ID isn't working
SoloPass uses Apple's system authentication, so it follows whatever you've set up on your device. Try these steps: go to System Settings → Touch ID & Password (Mac) or Settings → Face ID & Passcode (iPad) and confirm biometrics are enrolled. If Touch ID is locked out, use your login password or device passcode — SoloPass will accept either. Re-enrolment in system settings usually fixes persistent issues.
Where is my data stored? Is it backed up to iCloud?
All credentials are stored locally in SoloPass's sandboxed app container on your device — never in iCloud, never on any server. The file is encrypted at rest using complete file protection. SoloPass has no network access whatsoever. To back up your data, use Settings → Export SoloPass Backup to save a JSON file, or Export as Apple Passwords CSV for a format compatible with other apps.
I accidentally reset my vault. Can I recover my credentials?
The reset performs a secure wipe — data cannot be recovered from within the app. If you previously exported a backup (JSON or CSV), you can restore it via Settings → Import Credentials. We strongly recommend exporting a backup before any significant changes. Going forward, keeping a regular export in a safe location (encrypted drive, secure notes app) is the best protection.
How do I import from Apple Passwords or another password manager?
SoloPass reads the standard Apple Passwords CSV export format directly. In Apple Passwords: File → Export Passwords → save the CSV. In SoloPass: Settings → Import Credentials → select the file. Most other password managers (1Password, Bitwarden, LastPass) can also export in this format. On import you can choose to merge with existing entries or replace all.
The vault keeps locking itself — how do I adjust the auto-lock?
SoloPass locks after 5 minutes of inactivity or when your screen sleeps. It stays open while you're actively using your Mac or iPad — switching to another app momentarily won't lock it. If you want to lock manually at any time, tap the lock icon in the sidebar footer or use ⌘⇧L on Mac. Auto-lock timeout adjustment is on our roadmap for a future update.
How does Emergency Access work?
In Settings → Emergency Access, enter a trusted contact's name and email, then tap Generate & Send Code. This opens your Mail app pre-filled with the access code and instructions. Give them the code to keep somewhere safe. When needed, they open SoloPass on your device, tap Emergency Access on the lock screen, and enter the code. This gives read-only access — they can view and copy credentials but cannot add, edit, or delete anything. The code never expires unless you reset it in Settings.
Can I use SoloPass on both my Mac and iPad?
Yes — SoloPass is available as separate native apps for macOS and iPadOS, each optimised for its platform. Data is not automatically synced between devices (the app has no network access by design). To keep both in sync, export a backup on one device and import it on the other. We're exploring optional local network sync for a future version.
I found a bug or have a feature request
Please email [email protected] with as much detail as possible — what you were doing, what happened, and your device and macOS/iPadOS version. Feature requests are very welcome and directly shape our roadmap.
